Imaging Lulin...

Hi Guys,

I had a try last night at imaging Lulin - I have the SXV-H9 on the WO 66, and I think I had the fuzzball - but that was all I could see really.

I've got a webcam as well, but thats un-modded.

So - a few questions really:

What FoV do you need to get this target

Should I be able to shoot the tails with the SXV-H9?

What sort of exposure length should I be aiming for?

Do you need to guide and how?

Cheers,

Richie

Hi Richie i have bagged a few in the past..

This is some tips on general comets as the

weather has prevented any Lulin attempts.

If you want the core just expose until it looks OK.

If you want the tail you might have to overexpose the core

and use a wider Field.

If you need to guide then guide on the comet as you know

it will be moving relative to the background.

When it comes to stacking subs again stack on the comet.

Sorry i have not answered all but i hope that helps

Ed

Hi Richie

I had Lulin in my WO66 on Saturday with a 40mm eyepiece. Fuzzball is a good description. I have attempted to answer your questions where I can, but this is usually trial and error for me!

What FoV do you need to get this target - would estimate 20-30mm

What sort of exposure length should I be aiming for? - long as possible but I would say 60sec plus

Do you need to guide and how? - yes to get anything longer than 5-10secs in the WO66. You would need a tracking mount or piggy back the camera on a tracking telescope. Ideally the tracking should use a guide camera locked on the comet.

Cheers

Danny
