Large pixel camera

Hi,

I have a StellaLyra 8” RC on order. Woohoo

I was looking to see what camera would give me an imaging scale of 2-3 (Bortle 5 skies)

My calculations show I am looking at something around 10micron pixel size.

Anyone know of camera with that pixel size, but also 4Megapixel sensor or better?

@wimvb

I thought of that, but, still not sure about any negative issues around software binning with CMOS cameras as binning in not something I have tried before.

Should I bin images at:

  • capture
  • post capture pre process
  • post capture post process

My thoughts now are which gives best sampling?

Mono: bin at capture

Osc: bin in preprocessing (super pixel debayering)

From a light polluted site, I would probably choose mono. It's easier to do both rgb and narrowband imaging. From a dark site, osc works well. You cand do nb imaging with a dual band nb filter.

Ta - only started looking at imaging 5yrs ago, with 3 off due long term depression.

Bortle 4/5 skies here apparently.

Have both a 1600mm cooled and 294MC cooled so, will try each over time

thanks
