mosaic M42 and Horsehead

This is my first try at a mosaic its a total of 4 images 3 images are 1 hour each at 15 min exposures iso 800 and the horsehead was from a earlier sesion of 3 hours iso 800 15 min exposures

taken with the SV70ED and Canon 40D Modified

that is a nice smooth result. It's well worth spending some time getting rid of the bigger halos.

Not sure how to get rid of them there HALO'S but I aggree they need to go so will have to look into that Thanks Dennis, Brendan and Kevin any tips and tricks will be welcome

Nice to see them in this widefield setting, and being in mono gives it a genuine deep space aura.

Yes registar stitched you have to register then calibrate then combine but you really have to get the background correct before you do it

Les, black and white halos are relatively easy to get rid of. Display the image at 200-300% in PS. Select the halo using quick mask with a brush of about 50% hardness and 100% opacity. Switch colours to white and match the brush size to the star core. Remove the quick mask from the centre. Hit 'Q' to convert to a selection outline and do the rest with Curves.

If this leaves you with a small annular ring you need to play with the brush hardness/size or make it 100% hard and then feather the selection outline before Curves.
