Try it even through cloud

I have thin high cloud over me and the moon bright through it.

I can just about see Orions belt naked eye and more in hope than expectation I set the goto on Orion Nebula...... hoody blell..... still a lovely view . You never know till you try and I will try more often now.

Yep, I'm new to the hobby and will take my scope out as long as its not thick cloud.

I'm still able to see the m42 and saturn (like I said Im very new so these are the easiest objects for me to star hop to) which for me is more than enough.

A very good question - how much can you see through cloud? Usually when my garden is clouded I can't see anything - is there any way of working out how thick the cloud cover is before I get the scope out?

A peek with binoculars can give a fair indication

If there's high cloud that's not too thick, there's a chance that seeing might be good so it's a good time to look for small features on planets and Moon.
