Best skies in the Mediterranean?

I've seen the "light maps" but that haven't seemed that accurate so far - except for getting as far away from city lights as possible, of course. They also do not cover the clarity aspect of a sky. I don't think we can merely aim for the drying climate either - considering how great a lot of Hawaii is for observing, and how much rainfall it gets. Hawaii is one of the few places I've been where the sky really popped even without equipment. I'd like to get some first hand reports of where is best in the Mediterranean.

Thanks!

I suspect that all the southern coasts will have a pretty much lp free view of the south. The south coast of Crete, here in Greece, facing miles and miles of empty sea before north Africa, is great and not so crowded even during summer holiday season.

I go to Menorca every year (excluding 2020, Covid19 🤬) and some of the views with the naked eye South are amazing once you get away from the resort lights. I’ve sat and enjoyed the Milky Way many a night but the hue from the hotels make a huge difference in what you can see. A 2 min walk can make a huge difference. There is an observatory on Majorca so would assume there’s some pretty dark sky’s there also. Hope this helps
