What do I gain lose between EQMOD/EQDIR cables RJ45 vs RJ11/2 (ie 6P4C)

Hi People,

I've been using an EQMOD cable with an RJ45 connector quite satisfactorily for several months, and suddenly it has stopped working.

If I use the handset, my mount works fine.  If I list the ports available, I can see the relevant port.  If I open KStars, KStars can see the port, but gives me an error message when I send commands to it (eg start tracking) and doesn't correctly read the mount status either.

So maybe the cable has developed a fault.  I've sent off for a new Cable (China) and while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I thought I might back up to my old cable with an RJ11 plug on it which slots onto the handset.  If I do that what functionality will I lose?

Thank you so much.

Regards

Steve.

Make sure you get an fdti type cable , and it’s wired /configured properly if you were using an old type eqdirect cable it may have been the prolific chip type known to be troublesome .

It says FDTI chip on the photo.  It worked (albeit temporarily) last time.  I've fiddled with the plug to see if it had a loose connection.

I would only buy this cable fro FLO - there are so many counterfeit 'FTDI' cables about but buying from FLO guarantees you a genuine chip that will work reliably.
