What causes a change in color?

Maybe its me but i was wondering why, in this case Mars, suddenly lost its color?  Is it related to the conditions of the area from where you look to an object? Or do i need to go to Pearle tomorrow?

It might be a local effect.

I've just been observing Mars and it's colours looked OK to me. Very nice views actually - some of the best so far this opposition.

Possibly starting to get some of the smoke from the Cali wildfires? though I was looking at Mars at around midnight and it looked bright and colourful as normal

could just be it’s brightness washing the colours out? Is it’s brightness increasing as it approaches opposition? 🤷‍♂️ For me here the colours are very faint which makes picking out the details a challenge! A pale orange filter makes it look much more like the red planet and helps the darker areas stand out a bit better (though not much) It looked disappointing last night- the transparency was very poor again here despite no clouds

It might be me or the circumstances than. The last weeks i saw the slightly orange climbing dot through the trees, next to the the white lights of distant soccerfield.   Last night they looked to be both white.  Around 4 it was again recognizable and colors seemed to have returned.   Although still definitely a lot more pale.
