How to fix a focuser that isn't moving properly

Recommended Posts

I have a Orion SkyQuest XT8 Classic Dobsonian with a 2" crayford focuser.  The focuser has stopped properly moving in its track; it's not really moving at all; it'll move a bit, and then gravity will make it drop back down. I have to focus by pulling or pushing the whole tube by hand.

I took off the plate and 4 screws that hold the adjustment wheel to take a look.  I don't see any issues with the wheel-bar or the flat part on the drawtube.  I reattached the plate and tightened the 4 screws; no change.  The thumb screw that locks the tube in place is working properly.

Any ideas?
