Ethernet Cable +Pi4

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just need a little advice on which CAT ethernet cable would be suitable for my newly acquired Pi4.

The plan is to run Astroberry Server on the Pi with control via cable to laptop up to 20m away. Would CAT7 cable be best for data transfer ?

cat5e should be fine.  I'm fairly sure the RPi4 doesn't even have a cat6-compliant socket, so anything more expensive than cat5e would probably be a waste of money.

Blimey, didn't even know there were differences in the sockets.

I'm fairly sure that cat6 sockets have a contact inside for the shield as well as the normal eight pins, whereas cat5e doesn't need one.  I may be wrong though.
