Celestron X-Cel LX 2.3mm

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a Celestron 70mm Travel Scope.  My 6mm Orion eyepiece works great, but I wanted to try the 2.3mm.  It's a large eyepiece compared to the scope itself, but I can't seem to fine tune the focus.  Jupiter and Saturn are still a bit fuzzy compared to my 6mm Orion lens?  Is the 2.3mm too big for the size scope I have?

Hi,

The 2.3mm gives 174x magnification with the 70mm Travelscope. The scope is designed as a portable low to medium power instrument. 100x is probably about as far as you can push it really.

That is a top grab and go scope, however it has its limits as John says.  Planets are one of those things that demand ever more expensive scopes and eyepieces to get those super high magnifications and detailed views, so tantalisingly close yet not close enough!
