Not too old, all it's lacking is a flip out screen and video. luxuries you can manage without.

Canon 450D is a good camera for astro. Has its restrictions but it's plenty capable. Get it modified I'd say. As Dave said too, it's just some luxuries that you won't miss. If you're using software like APT  to control it as well then you won't even miss the flip out screen. Pretty straight forwards to modify yourself also.
