Imaging M78 or M1

Hey everyone,

I was thinking of taking out the astronomy clubs equipment to do some astrophotography. A Gso 10 f4 , neq6 and my Canon 700d unmodded. A ASI Guide scope and guider

I am thinking of either the crab nebula or M78

I remember that the crab shows up in a 30sec test shot. M78 was not that impressive in a exposure with same settings . I can do 3mins guided exposure . I can strech it up to 5 but don't wanna risk it cause of wind .

Will be back home by 1am or something so was planning about 2hrs of data or maybe a little more .

M78 looks bigger in the FOV .crab is small but is unique .

Any advice on which of the targets will be good for a 2hrs imaging session ? Don't wanna waste time on doing too many test shots .

Thank you 😊

I always find M1 a bit of a disappointment at my focal lengths, so far up to 805mm, at least you have about a meter but it will still be small I would have thought, I did M78 the other night with a 330mm Borg and 183mc camera and it came out reasonable at 90mins with 3min subs at F4.3, so your a tad faster. I would have though assuming all subs are usable the M78 would be better.
