hello Canuck i would not be so mean as to take the Micky and you were indeed partially right with your answer it was indeed Skylab but it was launched on the 14 may 1973 as a part of the Apollo programme and it carried 3 crew men at a time the space station itself was built from a highly modified second stage of a Saturn v lifting body and its finall demise was brought about by an accident which looked very similar to the Apollo 13 near disaster they actually managed to repair the station with a patch made from a spare section of solar panel i have included a link to the NASA site for anybody who may be interested
