Ranger 9 crash site.

Recommended Posts

Crater Alphonsus - just NW of the peak is where Ranger 9 spacecraft was purposely impacted into moon to send high res images back from its six cameras and was broadcast live for millions to watch in 1965.  I recommend watching the video of Ranger 9 crash on its wiki page if not viewed.  Performance was flawless, its final image was mere twelve inches above lunar surface before impact @ 9612 kph.  Alphonsus was also a primary backup landing site for Apollo 16 & 17 missions.

c11-2.5x barlow-asi120mm, 200 best frames stacked in AS3.

Clear skies !
