Astro EOS R full frame rumours.

Just been reading an interesting news article re. developments at Canon which paraphrasing reads:

Canon has patented a moon shooting mode specifically designed for photographing the moon, stars and other celestial bodies. The new mode uses hybrid autofocus technology that switches from phase detection AF to contrast AF according to the position of the subject. Under normal shooting conditions phase detection AF is faster and more accurate but contrast AF is a more accurate focusing method for astrophotography. Because the contrast is highest when the image is correctly focused contrast AF works by analysing the contrast information from the image on the imaging sensor and moving the lens to the position that gives the maximum contrast value and sharpest focus. This patent comes at the same time as talk of development of the new EOS R camera adapted for astrophotography. Existence of the patent certainly adds weight to this rumour. If the rumour is true we may soon see Canon’s first full frame astro EOS.”

Interesting.
