The Rosette in Widefield using Samyang 135mm

Recommended Posts

I am really enjoying using this Samyang lens so I thought that I would post this up. It is 49 subs of just 80 secs at ISO400 using the Canon 1200d. Processed in APP with a little help from Affinity Photo. I just wish that there was a suitable light pollution filter for use with this (filter size is 77mm). Pity IDAS don't do a D2 clip filter. I see that there is a Ice Lipo night filter available - anybody used one?

Hey Peter!

What about using a smaller filter and a step down ring? I've been using my 58mm LPS-D1 on 77mm wide lenses with good success. I've never tried on the Samyang 135mm, but I believe that would move the aperture to somewhere near f/2.5. A 2" filter would put you near f/3.

Smaller filters are much less expensive than 77mm ones, and the 2" version can also be used with your telescopes. It might create a bit of vignetting, but the Samyang has a lot at f/2 anyway. It also makes stars rounder with some lenses.

Yes I have been thinking about that. The 2" IDAS is about £180 but the 77mm Ice Lipo is about £60.
