Best camera filter for beginnger?

Hi all, I just bought a Celestron 8SE with EQ mount back in August and have been having loads of fun with it, especially after adding a focal length reducer. I live in heavily light polluted Los Angeles and do most of my AP from Bortle 5 skies in Malibu (though I occasionally visit much darker Bortle 2 skies out in the desert when I have time for longer trip). What is the best camera filter for a beginner such as myself (I think it will need to be a clip in filter so I can use with my SCT)? I am interested in everything right now (planetary and deep sky), but I assume I will get much more benefit with the filters doing deep sky. Should I go for a broadband filter or a narrowband filter? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
