Gain ?

Help !     , I'm a bit confused as where to start with this setting .. 

i have a QHY 163C camera that I hope to be using soon , and I have been looking at people's pictures and their settings , but they are all over the place .. there is a thread on SGL  I've been reading with much interest , the same Camera , Gain 20 , Offset 75  then   Gain 12 Offset 70 , then I've seen pictures taken at G 300 , OS 3 

can someone try and explain to me what's going on ? Please !

Hi Brian,

I use a QHY which has the gain & offset setting. Although my camera is a ccd chip & yours is a cmos chip, light is light, so should be relevant:-

I would think that 70 is about correctnfor offset. Beyond that I would just use unity gain to start out.
