Older style SW polar scope

Hi,

Just got one for my Lightrack II and I've never used the older style one. Do I need to rotate the whole polar scope so the big dipper in the polar scope is in the same orientation as it is in the sky and then adjust the mount so polaris is in the little cycle ?

That's right. Match what you see in the sky and it should give you a reasonable PA.

Need it for my holiday tomorrow, might swap the reticle out of my HEQ5 and put it in the EQ5 polar scope.

Can you see the big dipper through the polar scope or is it a case looking through then looking up at the sky to gauge the position  ?

You don't see Ursa Major (or Cassiopeia) in the Polar scope field of view but just rotate the axis until they are approximately in the same orientation visually. (If that makes sense?)
