Skywatcher Star Discovery Stiff Azimuth Axis

I've picked up a second hand skywatcher star discovery mount and there's quite a bit of resistance in the azimuth axis when you turn it manually by hand as opposed to the alt axis which is much smoother. Is this normal? There isn't a clutch which you can loosen it with, so I'm a bit stumped. Any ideas?

Which axis are you naming RA and DEC ? The SD is an Alt-azimuth mount, the Alt axis raises and lowers the telescope and the azimuth axis rotates the telescope around the vertical axis.

Sorry, lol, been using EQ mounts for too long. Its the azimuth axis.
