EQ5 latitude screw

Recommended Posts

So I need a latitude screw for my EQ5, but Im not really sure what to search for, I don't have any shop in my country that sells that, and shipping to my country from USA/UK will be super expensive if they will even agree to ship it, my ideal option is buying from ebay/aliexpress/something similar, but Im not really sure what to look for, I saw a thread saying that the screw I need is M8x83mm, but on another site I see that they say M6, so Im really not sure what to look for.

I've seen this for example, will any of those be good?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5-pieces-M6-Female-Thread-Star-Shaped-Head-Clamping-Nuts-Knob-For-Industry-Equipment-Plastic-Carbon/32856814527.html

Thanks.

The altitude screw on my EQ5 was bent, so I purchased an M8 stainless steel screw from ebay. Length 70mm. The cap has an allen key recess that allows adjustment.

It should be easy enough to obtain, but if you can't I will post you one - I had to purchase 5!

So the screw is M8 for sure? will the following links work?

They are all M8 60mm I think, might not be the most ideal as it should be 80mm I think, but maybe it will be enough? what do you guys think?

Thanks.

Edit - also seen those:

I just found a M8 screw in my house, it didn't fit.

How did you measure the M8 screw? (Measurement has to be on the outside of the screw thread.) Is the mount a SkyWatcher EQ5?

I just saw M8 written on the top of the screw, I don't know if there are any other EQ5 brands, and I don't see SkyWatcher logo anywhere in the mount, but it is a SkyWatcher 200p with EQ5, so I assume it is by SkyWatcher as well.

Posting an image of the mount may help identify it.

The first screw is the original screw, the second screw is a screw I found at home, it says "size 48" on the back of it, its too small, but maybe useable, idk..

The mount looks to be a Skywatcher EQ5. Markings on the head of bolts often do not refer to the bolt size but refer to things such as steel grade or manufacturer's reference. An M8 bolt should do the job, though bending of the original adjusters is common. That's why I went for a stainless steel bolt as this is harder. Supporting the mount whilst adjusting the bolt can help with preventing the bolt from bending.

The thing is, I found a M8 bolt in my house, and it did not fit, are you sure that if I order a M8 bolt it will fit?
