Which Motor EQ1 or EQ2

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have an EQ2 mount and I want to put a motor drive on it, i searched the internet and have came across an eq1 model and a eq2 model, the eq1 model is cheaper but they look exactly the same so I'm just wondering if I could put an eq1 motor on an eq2 mount.

Here is the eq2:

Here's the eq1:

Probably not, although drive casing looks the same, there is a good chance that they turn at different speeds (although speed can be adjusted on both).

This is due to fact that Eq1 and Eq2 mounts are different, and probably have different RA worm size / number of teeth / period - so you need a motor of a different speed to make them go at sidereal speed.
