cotterless45
Two races last night, Jupiter slides behind a giant oak and the Moon bleaching out the sky. Started with Jupiter, for once very stable hold at x180. Some lovely band festoons and belts defining the polar areas, just shades of brown. Antares and the claws of Scorpius nicely up, top star being Graffias. A very pleasing double in a wide field. Cepheus gave a chance to check taking apart and cleaning the 150 doublet. Look at IC 1396 at the base of the house , bang , there's Σ2816 one of the finest triples at low power. Some say violet , yellow and green. I'd go with that. ΟΣ 461, multiple , a line of stars with one a the side. The faint fifth star was bleached out. Now some real big aperture close ones , Σ 2801 an easy clear split at 2.1" Σ2843 clean at 1.3"( SAO 19686) Σ2950 clean split , open at 1.1" taking x216. Very pleased with the calm seeing. Turned to Cassiopeia, the "owl cluster" , NGC 457, quite faint. By 11.30 daylight bright ! Had a shift around Cygnus , but too light .Hedgehogs very busy as I headed inside at 11.30, Nick. cotterless45
Ta , had to check to see if it hadn't widened out . From the appearance it looked wider. Cepheus is a fantasic area when the season kicks off , high above dodgy horizon seeing and light glow, Nick.
wookie1965
I may get some of those close ones in the 5" when it turns up. Brief but informative as usual Jupiter is not well placed for me in the South This is my South view
