Guide Scope & Camera advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Looking to buy a guidescope & camera for imaging DSO's. I am starting to learn that trying to save money when imaging is difficult and not always cost effective if you have to buy again later because it was not up to the job. But how far do you need to go regarding the guidescope?

Is there any benefit for example in this:

STARWAVE 50MM GUIDE SCOPE & GPCAM MONO GUIDE CAMERA KIT

compared to this:

Skywatcher EVOGUIDE-50ED Guide Scope PLUS ALTAIRGP130M Mono Guide Camera

My first question is what are you looking at guiding? What is your main scope? I ask as the longer the focal length the less reliable a short focal length guider will be and sometimes Off Axis Guiders are the way forward.
