Apologies if this has already been highlighted on the forum ... did a quick look through recent AL threads and could find nothing.

Apparently scientists are on the verge of having the first direct image of the black hole at the centre of our galaxy. When I heard this on Breakfast I did a search and there are a number of internet articles on this, including this one.

I have been waiting for this for a while now. Apparently all of the data was taken a while ago but they had to wait on data taken from the Artic.

I believe it will also include the accretion disk around the black hole, should be interesting.

From what I gather, it is the shadow of the star on the accretion disk that will actually be shown - no light being emitted from the star itself.
