New SN in M82 ?

Recommended Posts

I posted this image in various FaceBook groups I belong to and 3 separate and unrelated people in different groups said they thought they are seeing a new SN in M82.

(I didn't post the image on SGL as  I am not particularly proud of it !)

It was imaged 26th Dec 2017 between 1700hrs and 2300hrs.

I am not experienced enough to know whether that's correct or not.

Anyone know ?

Thanks in advance.

It would help if they pointed out what they believe is new SN

Here is comparison to image I took last year:

Your image goes quite a bit deeper, but I can't spot a star that is not present (or hinted) in my old image. Except may for this one:

But quick online search finds the star in HST image from 2006.

So, I can't really help much than this, I can't seem to be able to spot it, maybe if there were a bit more info ...
