Cmos have other dark signal and dark noise characteristics than ccd. And only the very newest sensors have a dark current that matches ccd. Cooling helps to get consistent results.

I'm actually seriously considering getting a CCD... well Astro cooled camera of some sort. The ZWO 1600MC is currently the front runner, and the other I like is the QSI683... The ZWO seems like a good balance of cooling, resolution, mono and price, on paper it's comparable to the QSI683, but 1/3rd price....

Now to the point, are you saying above that the CMOS chip is worse than CCD I need comparison?

What are people's thoughts on the ZWO1600MC vs QSI683?
