Hypercam 178c or DSLR for widefield imaging

Looking to try my hand at some widefield imaging with camera lenses in the 70-300mm range.

Initially planning to go down the DSLR route (EOS1300D) but just been sidetracked by an Altair astro hypercam 178c. Fewer megapixels and narrower FoV with the same focal length lenses.

Anybody been considering the same sort of options?

Hmmm, personally i would go for the DSLR, the Altair hs very small FOV, and only 2.4 micron pixels...not sure that would be ideal for deep sky, but the DSLR would be very good, i know that the Altair advertises that it can do DSO but i think the DSLR would be far superior.. :)

If you are looking at on of the hypercams for DSO wide field then the 183c is the one you want not the 178c....although i would defiantly wait for the 183m which is on the horizon. The 178 is totally unsuitable for wide field.
