UV/IR Filter

spillage

Recommended Posts

I had been using a dslr with a mpcc that had my 2" uv/ir filter screwed in the end of it. I have now moved over to ccd(cmos) and filter wheel but should I now remove my 2" filter from the mpcc or is it okay to leave it in place?

I am thinking that I should remove it due to the filter wheel having its own uv/ir filter but would the filter help with the other filters?

cheers

Spill.

I don't think you'll need it. The Baader Red filter, for example, blocks anything above 700nm, which is where IR starts. I'm not 100% sure about UV, though, in case of the the Blue filter, but I suspect you won't notice any difference, so I'd remove it to reduce any chance of reflections.

PS: Narrow-band filters definitely won't need it.
