Imaging programme

What's the best free imaging programme online? I used to use one with my spc webcam, but it's been a few years now and I really want to get back into it.

That depends on what you'll be using for imaging. As you said you used to use a webcam I'll assume that's what you'll be using again so I'd suggest sharpcap (I think it's free)

Collecting, Stacking or processing ?

DSS seems the one for stacking long exposure images

Registax and Autostakkert for stacking webcam type avi files. "Best" seems to be to stack in AS2 and process in Registax.

Processing I guess "free" is GIMP. But that is a big program.

Collecting images and running the camera then Sharpcap gets mentioned a lot

I have just plugged my old spc 900 webcam into a laptop, using Windows 7, and running a recent download of Sharpcap V3. The laptop found suitable drivers, automatically, from the internet, and Sharpcap seems to work with it. Sharpcap V3 now incorporates some "Professional" updates not found in V2.9, and these seem to need a (paid for) licence to activate; but most functions seem to be available without this licence. I have not compared the functionality, available through Sharpcap, with those more closely associated with the spc, but gain and exposure time adjustments seem to work in normal daytime conditions.
