Star Diagonal

Hi all

This may be a very daft question but when using a star diagonal is it supposed to swivel round if you know what I mean. I thought that this happens to give a more comfortable viewing position but I just wanted to confirm with you experienced chaps!

Yep, just untighten it, turn it to whichever position is comfortable and retighten.

cheers Gaz I tighten it as much as I can but it still seems to move. I have to keep an eye on it all the time especially when moving the DEC and R.A parts!! as it just slides round!!

do you mean the chrome diagonal barrel is loose?

My Rigel Diagonal is prone to the barrel getting loose and swivelling around. I got so fed up with it i super glued the barrel in place.

yeah Russ it doesnt fall off but it swivels round every time I move the scope.

Yes, check it is not unscrewed - some diagonals seem to be prone to this. I discovered that my mates diagonal nosepiece was almost completely unscrewed the other day - about to drop onto the (hard) floor, which is not what you want!
