Dobsonian - to mount or not to mount.

All, I would love some advice.

I'm planning on building a observatory shed this year as i'm not getting the use out of my kit like I should. I have a Skywatcher 300p dob with goto. I'm unsure whether to build a pier or simply mount my dob on a plinth. 

The main issue is that I'm not sure if I want to spend £1000 on a EQ6 mount to handle the dob. Would I see significant difference with maintaining tracking?

A part of me is thinking that if I am going to do this then I should do it right, even if is going to cost me an extra £1000.

I would appreciate any opinions.

My opinion is that it would be best to put the Dob on a plinth first and see how you get on with it.

Yep, I agree with Peter. i would however make sure that the dimensions of your obsey are sufficient to allow you to ultimately use a mount should you decide at later date.

I agree with Peter. I also wouldn't want an eq for visual so you'd probably be looking at the az/eq6
