1.25" EP in a 2" Barlow?

Recommended Posts

I will soon be buying a SW Evostar ED80 Pro as my first telescope and I have what may seem like a stupid question, but i can't seem to find the answer anywhere...

The ED80 description says the diagonal accepts both 1.25" and 2" eye pieces, which I assume will be via a adapter of some kind?  As I am going to have a mixture of 1.25" and 2" eye pieces, will that adaptor work with a 2" barlow lens?  Or will I have to purchase a 1.25" barlow as well as a 2" barlow?

thanks

Scott

If you want to use a Barlow with a 2" eyepiece - you'd want a 2" Barlow. Such as the one shown below from the US:

The 2" Barlows usually come with an adapter for 1.25" eyepieces, so the 2" Barlow will handleboth 2" & 1.25" eyepieces. A 1.25" Barlow works on 1.25" EP's.

The 2" to 1.25" Adapters come included on many things, so before you buy one - make sure you don't already have one included on other equipment you may have ordered. But here's what these look like usually:
