Filter Wheel

Recommended Posts

Yes filter wheels save you having to re-take flats all the time.  If you plan on doing both LRGB and NB then you will want a 7 position wheel, if you can settle for just one of those then 4 or 5 would be fine.

Ok well every time you disconnect your camera from your scope you should retake your flats to account for dust ingress and slightly different alignment.  If you have a filter wheel you just leave everything connected in that you won't get any more dust on the filters and the alignment isn't going to change on its own.

The Starlight Xpress USB filterwheels are very nice and allow to change the inside disc for other sizes of filters in the future. : http://www.sxccd.com/sx-usb-filter-wheel
The main advantage is that it is powered by USB, so no power cables involved and it is very versatile. Every kind of adapter size is available as well as a dedicated OAG
