EQ6 PEC: can't remove PE

Old black EQ6 with synscan upgrade. Worm bearings and black bitumen have been replaced.

Hi everyone
With apologies to those who have seen this elsewhere.

I'm trying to train out the strong 122s RA PE cycles on the mount. pecprep and fellow sgl'ers tell me that this is the stepper gear; the one attached to the spindle of the motor. EQMOD autopec does a good job of recording the curve but there's nothing it can do about the 122s it seems. I use PHD2 to guide. Every 4th or so snap will have still round, but softer, bigger stars. You can see the score on DSS falls for these frames too.

 Stuff I've tried:
- clean and regrease the RA motor and associated gear pair
- tighten the grub screws holding the gears to the motor in a myriad of different sequences
- no grease
- use loadsa backlash between gears
- use no backlash between gears
- swap DEC stepper gear with RA stepper gear
- make sure that the gear on the worm shaft aligns with the transfer gear

Nada. Still the 122s PE persists

Anyone?
