EQ5 in ALT/AZ mode

I've been wanting to mount my ED120 on an AZ mount with slow motion controls but didn't want to spend anymore as I've already overspent my budget. So I converted (with a little filing) my EQ5 to work in AZ mode.

The little crossbar that holds the front altitude bolt had to be filed to make it fit under the flange that holds the head in place.

At the moment I've just taped the crossbar, I will need to file it down a little more for the screws to fit.

Excuse me please if I ask a silly question.

Why did you have to file that cross bar down if it can be easily removed? Won't it alone allow the tab to go past the bar that restricts the tab's movement further forward?
