ST120 2" Eyepiece advice

I am currently waiting for delivery of a Skywatcher ST120 which i picked up second hand. This will replace my first ever scope, a Skywatcher ST102.

I currently have no 2" eyepieces but think it may be worth while getting one to use with the "new" scope.

I will also need a 2" diagonal.

I was looking at the following:-

http://www.firstlightoptics.com/diagonals/skywatcher-di-electric-star-diagonal.html

However i have seen this diagonal, which is a little cheaper than the one above:-

How much difference will there be between the two diagonals?

Is the eyepiece going to be a good choice for the ST120 ?

Many thanks

Only just spotted this thread!

I use the Revelation Quartz Dielectric 2" diagonal on my ST102, and I find it to be excellent. I bought it from Telescope House:

In terms of 2" eyepieces, I have the Skywatcher Panaview 32mm, which gives a massive 4.4 degree FOV on the ST102 (it will be a bit less on the ST120). It's great for wide-field clusters, giving a similar FOV to big binoculars. I also use this EP on my 10" Dob to good effect.

Hope that's some help,

Ed

HI Rob,

I'm struggling to see the benefit of this 2" EP over a standard 32mm plossl, other than a marginal gain in exit pupil (reduction in size of exit pupil) and magnification.  I think this is due to the 56deg aFOV which should show you around 3 deg of sky in the 120 as opposed to the 32mm plossl which should show you 0.07deg more.

I don't think it really shows off the benefits of a 2" wide field EP and complements the 120's wide field capabilities.. I'm sure I'd seen one for sale on here or on ABS recently.. If you want to try one a wanted add would probably shift one out...

You may want to look around the mid 25mm to 35mm focal length with a 70deg aFOV or so.. the ES maxivisions FLO have on sale are a good EP, and the panaviews have also a good      following

don't know if that helps much..

thanks

Fozzie

Thanks for all the advice, i have already ordered the Skywatcher 28mm 2" eyepiece, but it was only £14 so not the end of the world if it is of no real benefit.

I have also picked up an Opticron 2" dielectric diagonal from a member of this community. :-)

Thanks again.
