Moisture and blocking filters

Recommended Posts

In this months astronomy now (might be s@n) there's an article on imaging the sun in h-alpha. In it, the author recommends keeping the blocking filter in a bag with some silica gel. It sounds like they are In Some way vulnerable to moisture.

I kept my scope and filter in an ip67 rated case with a canister of silica gel inside for good measure, so I reckon I'm ok, but the advice did make me wonder...anyone else heard of this ?

Never heard of people needing to keep their solar filters in a bag/box with silica (per say) unless they store it overnight in an outside shed or garage that could be damp. Its a good idea to do this with all scopes if kept in the places i mentioned. Most people i'd say store in the house and really no need for silica packs etc.

I reckon  the way you are storing your scope is just fine.
