Attempt to get in fiocus

Recommended Posts

I tried in daylight my newish Atik 16Ic connected to my SW ED80 1Pro and found that I needed 2 adaptors, approx 2 1/4" total to get in focus. That is without using the diagonal. Is this the norm. My SW 80 StarTravel does not need any adaptors. I am afraid I might get vignetting.

What were you focusing on Robin. If it was an object very close to the scope, then the adaptors may have been required to get focus. An object at infinity, a star for eg. would reqquire you to focus further in, and the adaptors would not be needed. I am sure you are aware of this of course.

If you say you need 2" adaptors Steve then I'm OK with my set up and assume I will not get vignetting.

Robin, you should be fine with the ATIK and ED80 as the extension will be very approx. 40mm in diameter (a 'T' adapter had a 42mm thread) and the sensor is relatively small in comparison with this.

Here are the bits that I use with my ED80 and Atik 16HR. The first picture shows the Atik attached to the ED80 and the second shows the assortment of adapters that are used to attach the camera / focal reducer / and filter wheel.
