SW EQ5 AZ & EQMOD

Hello,

I am thinking of upgrading my Vixen GP to SW EQ5 AZ mount.

Do you know if I can control it with EQMOD, as it is not listed in EQMOD's site in the list of compatible mounts.

Also, can I use the USB port for this purpose?

Yes, you can use EQMOD and  you can use the integrated  usb port (but you need to change the default EQMOD baud rate to 115200 bps).

You just drive the mount through an EQDirect connection (USB to Serial) \ EQMOD & your away....

Just one more question.

Am I correct if I suppose that mounting a Newtonian in alt-az mode is better for observing as the eyepiece maintains its original orientation and there is no need for rotating the tube ?

Have you used the mount with a Newtonian in this way?
