Hi all,

Went to the above this afternoon as they had an open day in aid of the British Red Cross. Three of their eight domes were open today, one with a 16" LX200 looking at Mercury, but alas no joy as the cloud just kept rolling in - typical eh!, another dome had a solarscope mounted on a 14" celestron, I managed to get about a 3 second glimpse of the Sun in HA. The third dome contained a half metre cassegrain reflector.

Apart from the large reflector their other 'scopes are all SCT's, they also have a 4.5 metre radio telescope. Research astronomers were on hand to answer questions. Research astronomers were on hand to answer questions. Not far from the obsy (and down a valley) is a Pinetum and this was open in conjuction with it, and despite most people being there for the trees, it was good to see the observatory getting a lot of interest and the astronomers were kept quite busy.

I'll put some pictures in the 'photography board soon.

Edit: a few photos now in the Photography Forum!

Regards

Roy
