One target.....

As winter is drawing upon us have decided to go a bit mental and concentrate on one target for a few months. ....namely good ole M42

Question is as this can blow out quite easily, what sort of exposure ranges do people recommend with my imaging setup shown in sig below?

Realise there is going to be a whole load of layer action going on in the end to get a good image showing faint details and keeping the core remaining....am looking forward to that challenge and learning process too

Hi, you appear to have a fast Newt,

Personally I would go for 5 minute subs for the whole of the Nebula,

maybe 20 subs, or more if you can, then 20 x 30 second subs for the

core then blend them together to get the best of both worlds.

If you can take good flats , bias and darks for best results.

Hope this helps

Yup that helps. Was thinking 5 mins for main and short ones for core. May try a few longer ones if I can push my tracking tgat far for some very faint stuff.....

Flats should be OK as am using an led ceiling light for them
