Maplin 12V power tank problem

The cigar lighter socket does not seem to provide any voltage any more. Should I open the unit up to check fuses/wiring?

Well I would. Seems like a wire came adrift or, like you said, a fuse thats popped.

There shouldn't be anything fancy in there, just some wires.

The whole cigar lighter socket is free to rotate in its cradle, I have a feeling that I've been turning it this way and that and too much rotation has caused the connecting wires to snap off.

From your description, it would seem logical that a wire has 'fatigued' - should be easy to fix though.

I had the same problem, so I simply removed the battery from the case and threw the case away. I bought a ciggy lighter socket from eBay that simply connects to the terminals and I charge with an Optimate III charger that likewise just connects to the terminals.

All sorted out, unscrewed 8 screws and saw that one black connector had come off. Reattached and screwed cover back on -> power!
