Hello everyone , I bought a filter to go on the end of my skywatcher evostar refractor, it fits very well, and I can see the sun and a sun spot .

It does look great but its not as fantastic as the images from the H alpha telescopes where you can see the flares

Is there anything I can do simple (other than buying a dedicated telescope) to maybe see the flares? At the moment I can see the sun as very bright white only

H-alpha is the way to go to catch flares. Note that this must be a solar H-alpha filter, not a DSO H-alpha filter. A Herschel wedge only shows white light. You need a Quark or similar system to get H-alpha solar with your current kit. Alternatively, for wider views get something like a PST or Lunt LS35/LS50 (second-hand for preference)
