Yeah you can do 10s (0.1fps) in software like sharpcap. Does get noisy at 10s even with 0 gain though so darks are a must. Managed m42 though as my first ever DSO, and another member did the ring nebula.

I think that I will go with the ZWO.

Anything that requires fiddly modding would end up meeting Mr. Hammer.
