sun dog?

have I caught a sun dog here or has my camera just gone mental, I didn't see anything in the sky I was just taking a snap of the rosebuds in silhouette form and came across just now as I was looking, theres another 2 or 3 with the same

if it is a dog I have fluked it

Hi Craig, I strongly suspect that it is lens flare. A Sundog will always be at the same horizontal level as the Sun and be 22 degrees either side of the Sun. Also the red would be on the Sun side which is opposite yours. Sorry.

The silhouettes have worked well though :-)

cheers for that, I sit and wait too see my first dog  , youd think id of seen one by now, maybe I have and not realised

+1 for the lens flare, sundogs are regularly visible but do come and go quite quickly.
