ISS animation, 4th June 2015

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Here's a little animation of the ISS as it passed over this evening.

This is 12 frames captured over a period of about 2 minutes, and, I think, neatly shows the change in its orientation as it passes. I just set the camera on continuous shutter mode and kept firing as I aimed it in the finderscope. Canon 700d, 250mm f/4.8 Newtonian. 1/2000 second exposures. Aiming a Newtonian on an equatorial mount at a fast-moving target is no mean feat!

On this pass it came to within 552km of my location, but at its best it can come to within around 410km. Hope to capture a closer one soon.

Cheers, folks,

Here's a detail from one of the images. Probably my most detailed capture yet, but it's obviously very easy to overexpose the brightest parts, even at 1/2000 sec exposure.
