NexStar 114GT missing tripod

My friend has a NexStar 114GT but he said the tripod broke years ago and may have thrown it away.  

the question is, can a Base be made for it and it still work?

or does it need the tripod?

Is it the tripod or the mount that's missing? Have a look on astroboot, they often have tripods and bases for a variety of scopes going cheap. You might need to ask celestron about compatibility.

it is just the tripod, and ebay did not have any, i have contacted celestron regarding the threading size but have not heard anything back, might be a couple days
