Which transmission % for moon ?

Hi there !

I am on the market for a Moon filter for a 90mm refractor and was wondering which % transmission I "want" out of it ?

They have 13, 20. 30 and 50... Also a variable one.

I just cannot for the life of me look at it when it's full without filters.

I never used them before, what do you think ? Thought I'd ask before making mistakes :)

100% transmission, ie: no filter

Seriously, I don't find I need a moon filter even with my 12" scope.

It's not very interesting when full anyway but it's not going to damage your eye in any way. If you find it a little bright, try adding some more magnification - that tends to dim it down.

Why don't you go for a variable filter, that way you can adjust it to suit the seeing.... To adjust them you undo the thumb screw that holds your eyepiece in the diagonal and rotate the eyepiece.... don't forget to tighten the screw again once you have found your ideal spot.
