I'm very impressed with your photo! Excellent! Kudos...

Thanks.  I was pretty happy, especially considering that I had never viewed Saturn before.  I'm pleased with what I can see with my "cheap" 120mm achromatic refractor.

To get RWT's picture into perspective.

At junior school (circa 1966) we had a Patrick Moore astronomy book in the class library.

There was a colour picture of Saturn taken using the Mount Palomar scope.

From memory it was only slightly better than RWT's pic!

I remember getting up at 3 in the morning to get my 1st ever view of Saturn with my old 60mm Tasco refractor 30+ years ago. I'll never forget the feeling of seeing it in the eyepiece

Me too, but for Jupiter! Couldn't sleep again when I went to bed afterwards!

When I showed the moon to my girlfriend with my tv60, she said WOW!

When I showed her Jupiter, she said Wow!

When I showed her the double cluster, she said Oh, that's cool!

When I wanted to show her Andromeda at her parents' house in Devon (what a sky....!), she went to bed!

Yeah, funny to see how reactions can be different!

Well, a grey smudge is...a grey smudge, I guess :)

You should have shown her the Pleiades!

Grey smudge??! That was the best view of Andromeda I saw in my life, and I took a photo of it with my brain! What a beauty! You could see the two satellite galaxies too and all was very clear!

I showed her the Pleiades, but those were just 'nice'

The first time I saw them on my tv60 I was jumping of joy in the field...!

Thats a cracking little image of Saturn. The colour is a bit off but who cares.

There's a good reason for the color being a bit off.  I used a #8 Yellow filter when taking the image, because it brought out a bit more detail and reduced chromatic aberration. I now have a Baader Semi APO filter that lives in my refractor which gives much truer color.  I'll post a new picture sometime.
